Chauhan has claimed that the quality of Basmati rice grown in MP is at par with other states of North. Basmati Rice is grown in land area of 2 hectare and production of 5 lakh metric ton. APEEDA was requested to include Madhya Pradesh in the list of states growing Basmati rice as the rice grown in the state is accepted in the foreign markets and has a share of about 40% in America.

The step taken by APEEDA is criticised by Chauhan and he suspects that this would affect the country’s exports and also the appeal by APEEDA would cause delay in Indian Basmati rice making and certification.
