According to the latest information available, it has been indicated that the Cambodian rice exports have dramatically declined over the past three months as compared to the same period last year, as per data released by the General Department of Agriculture yesterday. It has also been revealed that rice exports in the first five months of this year was totaled 234,328 tonnes, as compared to the 243,025 tonnes exported in the same period last year and it has been noticed that there is a year-on-year decrease of 3.7 per cent. Thus, infect, it is really very much concerning for the rice industry, as stated by Mr Hean Vanhan, Deputy-General Director of the General Department of Agriculture.
Further, in these aspects, the government has long planning and to set up a mechanism to solve the challenges of the rice industry by creating a joint private and public sector working group. However, it has not achieved the desired results. Meanwhile, Mr Hun Lak, Vice President of CRF, also narrated that rice exports always fluctuate as a result of price drops in competing with other rice industries. However, fluctuations in the rice industry always happen and the situation will be better by October, as it was added. Further, in order for the survival of rice industry, the members of the industry should have a strong commitment to solving the problem together and must build a strong leadership before asking others to help us.
