Government of Tanzaniais thinking to encourage rice farming and to make it popular it is boosting nearly 25 commercial farming deals; it is also brooding over to boost up nearly 78 smallholder rice irrigation schemes in all over the country to boost rice production.

The Minister informed to the sources that they are seeking for better results and want to accelerate the agricultural activities in particularly rural areas. They also want to increase the interest of stakeholder in paddy. He also intends that rice industry must be revived as plan is to set up a special window in Tanzania investment bank for peasants. Minister also told that Government wants to make the capacity of national food reserve Agency to purchase and save the grains, which are sufficient enough to complete the domestic requirement. Tanzania is having fertile land and most of the land is not yet utilized. Tanzania is self dependent in the case of rice grain. It is expected that rice exports here will reach up to 1.2 million in MY 2013-14 (May – April), whereas the need of the country is near about 200,000 tons.
