According to the sources that Abuja – The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, AuduOgbe, has assured millers and investors in the rice value chain of government’s support to ensure Nigeria becomes self-sufficient in rice production. This would enable the country to export the commodity. Further, on speaking during an inspection of the multibillion-Naira AA Ibrahim Integrated Rice Mill Ltd at Chalawa, Kano, it was revealed that huge potential for rice production existed in the country.
Further, it was also narrated that the farmers could feed the country’s growing population and export to earn revenue. It was commended for investing N6 billion in the project, which he noted, was on the verge of completion. Ogbe pledged that Federal Ministry of Agriculture would assist the company with a rice colour sorter to encourage its management.
Moreover, in this regard, the Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje mean while expressed his administration’s support also. The state government is making efforts to provide conducive atmosphere and working relationship between the farmers and the management of processing complexes. Managing Director of AA Ibrahim Integrated Rice Mill Ltd, Abdulkadir Aminu Ibrahim stated the factory was established to help in boosting the rice production in the country. It was reported that the production capacity is about 120 000 metric tonnes per annum and the facility provides 1 200 direct and auxiliary jobs too.
