South Korea bought a total of 35,000 tonnes of non-glutinous rice for April to June through a tender closed on Jan 27.The tender was won by  the state-run Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade (KAFTC) said on its website (www.at.or.kr).

Two agencies named Daewoo International Corp and Seomok Trading Corp won the tender for the Brown Long grain of Vietnamese origin and the Brown Medium Rice  Vietnamese origin respectively.

The agency originally though of purchasing 40,000 tons of rice but tender of 5,000 tonnes was passed on by the agency as the offer did not meet the requirement and price specification.The agency declinedto comment on whether they would reissue the tender
