For example, for every 1000 kg of paddy milled, about 200 kg (20 %) of husk is produced and when this husk is burnt in the boilers about 50 kg (25 %) of Rice husk ash is generated.
Rice husk ash in fully burnt condition, contains high grade silica varying between 65~75%. The silica present in rice husk, being of biogenic origin, is non toxic. Also, silica obtained from rice husk is chemically active and hence a very useful product.
In addition to silica, by-products like activated carbon and sodium carbonate are also generated during the process. Both these by-products also have commercial value & demand in the market.
Currently India is a net importer of Silica and hence rice millers can make use of the technology offered by MILLTEC to make a sensible business opportunity to make profits from waste.
