output_wRRiQdSince the recent earthquake has affected the livelihood in Nepal very badly, so it may be possible that this year the rice planting in Nepal may delay which generally starts in May and June.

However rice in Nepal is grown in low lying areas away from the most severe earthquake damage, but the 7.8 Mw earthquake may damage/affect the rice crops.

USDA data states that annual rice production in Nepal is at around 3 million tons and around 350,000 tons of rice is imported.

Food and Agricultural Organization has reported that UN and its partners has launched a $415 million emergency appeal for Nepal to address most urgent food needs after earthquake.

Besides rice, wheat the second most largest staple grain in India has harvested from March t June, may also be affected.
