Amando M Tetangco, Governor of the Southeast Asian country’s central bank conveyed Philippines curiosity throughout a gathering with Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman.

He also added Bangladesh is generating more rice than its need. We need to import vast amount of rice. The governor also showed interest in importing potato from Bangladesh and to encourage trade with Dhaka.

Bangladesh had attainted self-reliance in rice production and the administration had now certain to export rice to Sri Lanka. Plans could be made to export rice to the Philippines and the governments from both the sides can initiate talk on the mater.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Manila John Gomes, said a high-level trade delegation from Bangladesh would visit the Philippines next month and may discuss on export of rice and potato then.

The method to export rice to Sri Lanka has now started shadowing a government verdict.

The government agreed a suggestion on Oct 27 to export 50,000 tonnes of rice to the South Asian nation at $450 a tonne.
