Thai Government had instructed the commerce Ministry to release low quality rice from governments stock to industries involved in manufacturing of animal feed and ethanol, but the ministry had reported the government that it will not release low quality of rice for domestic consumption.
The Director General (DG) of Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) told the sources that it will not sell low quality rice to the industries that deal with the manufacturing of human and animal feeds. The amount of the rice to be released from the governments stock would depend on the current crop year yields.
He also assured the market that the stock released would not affect the rice process in the local market.
A month ago, DG of Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) had reported that only 2.6 million tons of rice is fit for human consumption.
Currently over 16 million tons of rice is present in governments warehouse. The Commerce Ministry had sold 1.96 million tons of rice in seven auctions since May 2014 and has plan to sell 10 million tons of rice this year and about six million tons next year.
