General Secretary of Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF)has found quoted that legal rice export to China has been started.

A team of delegation from MRF, Myanmar Rice and Paddy Trader Association, The Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry and the Commerce Ministry had visited China to sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MoU) with the companies that agree to buy rice from Myanmar last year in November at 25th ASEAN Summit.

Also MRF is planning to send again a team of delegation from members of 10 top most rice exporting companies in the country along with all the related documents signed between Myanmar and China to attend a meeting with officials of China Certification and Inspection Group (CCIG), COFCO Group and Chinese companies that have signed Memorandum of Agreement with Myanmar.

CCIG, investigation group of China is planning to set up an office in Rangoon soon to check the quality of rice being imported from Myanmar by China.

After the confirmation by Chinese Premier, that they will import 1 million tones of rice at the rate of $400 per ton from Myanmar in this year, discussion on new trade agreement between China and Myanmar would take place. Also China has promised to legalize the rice trade through borders which during  25th ASEAN Summit  was illegal.

China has been an important export market for Myanmar for the past couple of years and the export has increased almost 125 times since 2011.Myanmar has exported about 800,000 tons of rice to China in the first nine months of FY 2014-2015 illegally.

USDA has estimated Myanmar rice production at 18.98 million tones and exports about 1.4 million tones in MY 2014-15.

South-East Asian nations are also expected to increase their export by 25% from 1.2million tones exported in FY 2013-14 to 1.5 million tones
