Since the paddy procurement during Khariff season 2014-15 is up by 21%, Odisha state government has decided to procure 36 lakhs tones of rice this season.
Paddy procurement this year has grown by 21% with total procurement of 40 lakhs tones during this Khariff season.
Madhusudan Padhi, secretary food supply and consumer welfare said that so far the state government has procured 40 lakhs tones of paddy and since the procurement this year is 21% above than last year, 40 lakhs tones of paddy procured will produce 27.16 lakh tonnes of rice and the target for Odisha government this year is to procure 36 lakhs tone of rice.
The decision for paddy procurement was taken at the state-level paddy procurement committee meeting held under the chairmanship of chief secretary G.C. Pati on Saturday.
The Paddy Procurement will include both rabi and Khariff season.

The procurement for rabi season was started on May 15 and will continue till June 30, said Padhi.He said district collectors have been asked to expedite the procurement process to achieve the target by June 30.The minimum support price for paddy (Rs.1,360 per quintal) will remain unchanged for this rabi season also.
Padhi said the new farmers can also register their names to sell their paddy during the procurement process.Sources said 7,82,917 farmers for kharif and 1,55,493 farmers for rabi have been registered through online registration system.
