The Mizoram government has decided to purchase over 30,000 quintal of rice through contractor so as to ensure food to everyone in the state after mega block which was caused by construction of broad gauge railway tracks at Lumding-Badarpur section in Assam from 1st Octoberby railways.

State Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs secretary C Lalvena told PTI that they were informed by Contractor alrindika of Zarkawt in Aizawl  that he will start to buy rice from next week from sources other than FCI,

The contractor said that they will purchase the rice from Myanamar and other places and will sell to the government at price of Rs 25.25 at Zuangtui FCI warehouse in Aizawl.

FCI has also issued tender for supply of rice from Myanmar through Metals and Minerals Trading Corporation of India Ltd, Lalvena said.

Currently the state have enough rice to fulfill the state demand for the next 3 months.
