According to Bloomberg, Mauritania’s Paddy Rice production has reached 202,000 tons in 2013-14 sufficient to meet its 69% of domestic consumption.

Mauritania’s Agriculture Minister said that during 2013-14 paddy was planted on about 41,000 hectares of land.He said that they were expecting the paddy production for the year sufficient enough to meet the 90% of domestic consumption and has also urged local business-man to invest in the country’s rice sector.

Mauritania is a net rice importer and imports around 50% of its local rice consumption and produces only 50% of its domestic consumption.

According to USDA statistics, North-West African Nation to import around 110,000 tons of rice in MY 2014-15(October –September) and produces 167,000 tons of rice.
