Malaysian Minister of Agricultural and Agro based Industry Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the Ministry wants Malaysia to achieve full self sufficiency level in Paddy Production by the year 2020.For this operation , the ministry will spend RM 2.2 billion out of its RM6 billion budget allocated, so that farmers could increase their paddy yield.
For making the mission successful,many strategies and projects had been planned including upgradation of irrigation system in Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) areas said Ismail sabri.
The Ismail sabri said that every year Malaysia imports about 900,000 MT and this volume does not include one million tones of rice which is smuggled every year.
To achieve the target of 100% self sufficiency level(SSL), the minister has told the farmers to increase their paddy crop yield from current 6 tonnes per hectares to 7 tons per hectare
He also said that the memorandum of understanding has been signed between MADA and Bayer Co (Malaysia) to use Bayer’s technology to increase paddy yield in the farms
