According to the reliable sources, it has been reported that the Kerala government on Wednesday received Election Commission’s conditional nod for carrying out the free distribution of rice in the state, a scheme that was announced in the budget. However, the government has been instructed that the project should not be used for political gains and moreover, no new beneficiaries should be included. In addition, the quantity of rice should also not be increased during distribution, as the government has been instructed too.
Further, in the budget declaration, the government had revealed that aid in the form of rice, which was distributed at Rs 1/kg, would be made free. Citing the model code of conduct, the EC had obstructed the distribution of rice in the Kerala state accordingly.
