According to the reliable sources, it has been reported that the Lagos State Governor Mr Akinwumi Ambode, at the weekend revealed that the future of Nigeria rests in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was recently signed by his state and Kebbi State on agricultural production, particularly the production of rice. In addition, it has been stated that both Kebbi and Lagos have entered an agreement to collaborate in using their comparative advantages to expand the cultivation and processing of rice and agricultural products too.
Further, in this matter Mr Ambode explained that the partnership with Kebbi was a follow-up to what Lagos State believed was the future of Nigeria. In fact, it is believed that we should be able to feed ourselves and Kebbi State being the largest producer of rice and Lagos being the largest consumer, we thought it may synergize to reduce the importation of rice in the country. Moreover, the future of Nigeria is also lies in this agreement, as narrated by the Governor. Further, in this regard, Mr Ambode was in Kebbi State as a follow-up to Governor Atiku Bagudu's visit to Lagos some weeks back. While, speaking to journalists, Governor Mr Atiku Bagudu told that the agreement was in line with the vision that was outlined by President Muhammadu Buhari about food security and self-sufficiency in Nigeria.
