TN chief minister Jayalalithaa abolishes the claims by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(DMK)  chief M Karunanidhi who is an Indian politician who has served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on five separate occasions. He is the head of the DravidaMunnetraKazhagam, a Dravidian political party in the state of Tamil Nadu.

Karunanidhi claims that government would continue to supply rice to Above Poverty Line (APL) category of people at the old rate of 8.30/kg under the food security bill

Jayalalithaa has said that the centre’s assurance of providing the rice at old prices was an insincere talk and prices would be again revised.

In his statement Karunanidhi said Union food minister K V Thomas had written a letter to him on September 5 2013 noting that a proviso had been added in the Act for protecting the differential in cases where states were receiving lesser foodgrains under the Act than the present allocation.

“The Union food minister has given assurance in Parliament which has been recorded in the proceedings. It has been accepted in the Union Cabinet also. What other guarantee does Jayalalithaa expect?” Karunanidhi asked. The minister was answerable to an assurances committee, he said.

Karunanidhi, quoting Thomas’ letter, said ‘tide-over allocation’ would be at the issue price as applicable to APL category under targeted public distribution system.
