Recently in one of the website it has been reported that in Italy which forecasts that though the amount of certified seeds that will be used in the crop year 2015-16 will be almost same as last crop year but the distribution of different varieties will change significantly. It predicts that Long A varieties and overall more Clearfield varieties will dominate this year’s Italian certified rice seed area.
Further, the website also forecasts that the rice seed area for round paddies will remain unchanged from last year and will account for about 23% of total Italian certified rice seeds area. It forecasts medium varieties to account for 3% of the total certified seeds area. In addition, the website forecasts Long A to parboiled will increase about 2% y/y to 22%, and Long A for risotto will increase by 6% y/y to 35% of the total certified rice seeds area. However, it forecasts are for Long B varieties to decline by about 7% y/y to 16% of the total area.
Furthermore, in the report it has also been noted that the forecasts are based on the report of the public institution CREA (Testing Center and Seed Certification), containing all data on certified rice seed for crop year 2015-16. It will be officially presented on February 4, 2016 at the research center of the Ente Nazionale Risi (ENR), the National Rice Agency, as part of the technical conference on “Testing and agronomic activities seed for rice production of excellence”.
