As per reports, although as the Indonesia struggles with extended drought due to El Nino, it has been indicated that officials are confident that the nation would be soon self-sufficient in rice. It was informed by Mr Djarot Kusumayakti, the president director of state procurement agency Bulog, while a prediction was made on Sunday when he accompanied President Joko Widodo at the introduction of a new locally developed type of rice.
The rice, labeled IPB 3s and developed by the Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in cooperation with the Agriculture Ministry and the West Java government, was planted at Cikarang village in Karawang district. Further, it was emphasized that if the yields increases, let’s pray all together that we’ll soon enter in the era of self-sufficiency in rice in Indonesia. The official added that Bulog currently has enough rice in stock which is around 1.7 million tons.
