As the area under rabi crop cultivation has decreased from 37.19 lakh hectares to 32 lakh hectares the Indian rice export is expected to be decline by 20%.Another reason which counts for decreased rice export is cheaper supplies from Thailand as Thailand is removing its old and new stockpiles.

Latest report reveals that area under the rabi rice planting as on 5th March,2015 is 32 lakh hectares which in previous year in same period was 37.19 lakh hectare. As per 2nd Advance Estimates the rice production for 2014-15 is estimated at 103.04 million tones and total foodgrain production is estimated at 257.07 million tonnes which is the fourth highest quantity of annual food grains production in the country.

Comparing the last year’s food grain production this year ‘s food grain production is lower by 8.50 million tonnes.Last year the production was 265.57 million tones. The decline in rice, coarse cereals and pulses production is untimely rainfall during monsoon season 2014.

Indian rice export is expected to decline this year by 20% triggered by stiff competition from Thailand and this year the export volume is expected at 8 million tonnes from 10 million tonnes in 2014.This year Thailand is planning to offload 10 million tonnes of rice so it is proving a tough competition to India as it is supplying the rice at much cheaper rates.
