According to the sources of Ministry of Industry and Trade, an increase in Vietnam rice exports to Africa was recorded which was about 52% to around 525,896 tons in the first seven months of 2015 as compared to around 345,984 tons exported during the same time last year. It was observed that Vietnam’s rice exports to Africa in the first seven months account for about 16% of total rice exports. The major buyers from Africa in this year were Ghana, Ivory Coast, South Africa and Algeria. The increase in exports to African nations was noted due to lower prices of Vietnam rice as compared to those of Thailand and India.
Presently ,Vietnam 25% broken rice is quoted at around $320 per ton compared to Thai 25% and India 25% at around $345 per ton and around $340 per ton respectively. On the other hand, Vietnam 5% broken rice is quoted at around $330 per ton as compared to Thai 25% and India 25% at around $360 per ton and around $365 per ton respectively.
Further, as per sources, the Vietnam exported about 21,419 tons of rice worth $12 million to the U.A.E. during January – July 2015, which are about 375 more from the last year. According to data from the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), Vietnam exported about 3.343 million tons of rice in January 1 – August 13, 2015, down about 22% from about 4.26 million tons of rice exported in first eight months of 2014.On an average rice export price so far in this year stands at about $414 per ton (FOB), down about 4% per ton from about $431 per ton recorded during same last year.
