German Ambassador,Michael Steiner took up a “Rice for Bucket” Challenge which was initiated by a woman in Hyderabad.Some countries are using ice instead of rice but in India rice for bucket challenge is being followed under which a bucket full of rice is distributed to poor for a helping aid.
The challenge is a desi version of ALS ice bucket challenge.The original ALS ice bucket challenge had been designed to raise funds for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) — also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease and motor neurone disease (MND).
Michael Steiner distributed a bucket of 5 kg rice to more than 392 families of Vivekanand Camp in Chanakyapuri. Rachna a disabled woman who also received the help said it is an act which helps poor when they are in need and ration is something which is needed to feed the children.
This was a move organised by the German Embassy in collaboration with NGO ‘Chintan’, to educate the people to remove the poverty.
After distributing the rice bucket,Michael said that it is still unfortunate that the people think poverty as unavoidable, this mindset of people is need to change.Germany is running many projects to help Indians to cure the poverty and improve their living standards.
The ambassador also announced that another slum upgrading project, to which Germany wants to dedicate Rs 27 crore, is being prepared.
He also said that Germany has also provided funds to the J&K floods victims
