As per recent reports, it has been noted that loud applause erupted from the floor when Prime Minister Mr Datuk Seri Najib Razak of Malaysia announced the upcoming monthly distribution of 20kg of rice for hardcore poor families. Announcing the recalibration of the 2016 budget today, Mr Najib informed that this was one of the measures adopted to reduce the cost of daily basic necessities for the rakyat. Further, the government is very much concerned for the rakyat who are affected by an increase in cost of living, particularly the hardcore poor. Thus, the MyBeras programme will be introduced where each registered hardcore poor household will be supplied with 20kg of rice every month until December this year as it was announced.
Moreover, while in response, the Agriculture and Agro-based Minister Mr Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek told that the hardcore poor would begin getting free rice with effect from on 1st March. In this regard, the Ministry will locate the deserving families by referring to the e-kasih list and it will include rubber tappers and palm oil smallholders whose lives are affected by the low commodity prices. In addition, another popular step was the announcement of the setup of MyFarm outlets. These outlets will be managed by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority and it will sell agricultural products such as fish, poultry, meat, vegetables and fruits at prices between five per cent and 20 per cent below from market prices. To start this, the first outlet will be opened at Presint 7, Putrajaya in March and expanded nationwide to 10 other locations in town centres this year according to the prime minister.
