According to the sources from the News Agency as quoted by Mr Saypadeth Chounlamany, Director of the Department of Planning and Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Laos, it has been informed that the government has set a target in 2016, the Lao people across the country will consume about 2, 1 million tonnes and exports about 1 million tons. Further, the National rice stockpile will be 400,000 tons, and it will be processed into 640,000 tons of cargo and 60,000 tonnes of rice seeds. It was also narrated by Mr Chounlamany, that with regards to a particular current farming; it is difficult for farmers in Laos, to increase productivity and becoming the largest rice exporter in the world. Understanding this characteristic, the Government has chosen methods to encourage people to grow high quality rice, formed for the special rice in Laos alone there.
Thus, in this matter, specifically, Laos is encouraging people to grow rice “the tree said stitching”, a delicious sticky princess of Laos, is the majority of customers preferred the neighboring countries. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Laos aims to increase sector growth in 2015-2016 was 31%, whereby the share of agriculture and forestry in the GDP of Laos will be around 22.7%. In view of this goal, the Government has encouraged farmers to expand rice cultivation area of 1 million hectares, while the area of 100,000 hectares of upland rice to be able to produce around 4.2 million tonnes of rice a year.
