Bangladesh Supreme Court has supported the government’s decision to strictly use the jute bags for packaging of rice instead of polythene bags.

The government has issued an act called “Jute Packaging Act 2010” from September 2013 to make the rice traders and rice millers compulsory use the jute bags for rice packaging.

Rice traders said that the transition from the use of Polythene bags to the jute bags for their rice packaging could increase the prices of rice by 4-8 percent

Opposing the act some of the rice traders and rice millers had opposed this act and has filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking justice and the High Court has granted the stay over this government decision on July 8

But SC dismissed this stay by the High Court and make it compulsory to the rice traders keeping in view the point of safety to the environment and to avoid environmental phones.
