The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) has started a new app by the name Rice Crop Manager (RCM) which would help in boosting the rice production in the region as the app is designed to provide information regarding water management, nutrient, pest and weeds control depending on the seed variety and site specific conditions.
The app is accessible through internet using smart phones, computers and other mobile devices.
DAF-ARMM has trained more than 200 local farm technicians, agri- technologist and extension officers on how to use the app and its advantages. They will be giving coaching to the farmers on how they can increase their yields.
The technology was piloted in the towns of Pagalungan, Sultan Mastura, Datu Paglas, Northern Kabuntalan in Maguindanao province, and Taraka in Lanao del Sur following its launch last month.
ARMM Agriculture Secretary Makmod Mending Jr.said that the app will address the problems of on crop management practices through appropriate recommendations based on technical data provided by the RCM app.
About 20,000 farmers are expected to be beneficiary from the app and the program.
The RCM is a part of one of the program of ARMM to improve the living standard of the farmers by increasing the productivity and yield. This will also helps the farmers to increase their incomes.
According to Tong Abas, DAF-ARMM focal person on rice research and development, the RCM guarantees an increase of at least 1 ton per hectare in yield. (Bureau of Public Information-ARMM/APB/PIA-10)
