As the local polls are near, the government has proposed to provide subsidized rice,wheat to 19.6 crores above poverty line families under Public distribution System (PDS) on a condition that they have to provide in writing that they will increase their monthly quota without fail.
On a meeting on Wednesday The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has proposed a proposal with full support and no opposition to the proposal to provide subsidized wheat, rice , ration to APL families.
The Party has forwarded the proposal to Dinesh Gundu Rao, State Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and appealed him to execute the proposal as soon as possible.The proposal would first be presented before Cabinet and then it will be executed and hopes to be implemented within next two months said local sources to the Hindu.
To check the diversion it was decided to again re-introduce unit system for grain distribution to BPL families.This means that the ration would be distributed on the basis of number of family members at 5 Kg per person.
For instance a family with single member would get 5 Kg ration and that with 8 members would get 40 Kg.
In Unit system as the family size increases the ration quota would also increase.
At present the Anna Bhagya scheme is running in Andhra Pardesh under which a single member get 10 Kg of ration.
Rs 4000 crore were given to the Food and Civil Supplies Department in the year 2014-15 and it was estimated that it spend Rs 2800 crores
