After Thailand will successfully deliver the delivery of 1 million tones of Thai rice to China under G-to –G deal between the two countries.

Thailand had already shipped 300,000 of the 1 million tonnes and is scheduled to ship the rest by next July. For the remaining Thailand would urge China to import more jasmine rice as it is a value added product for Thailand.

To sell more rice to China under G-to-G contract, Commerce Minister General Chatchai Sarikulya said his ministry would discuss the new G2G rice contract with the China National Cereals, Oils and Foodstuffs Corporation (COFCO), a state agency for oil, rice and foodstuff imports, with a view to further sales.

China is biggest buyer of Thai Rice having interest in the Jasmine rice. China imports about 4 million tons of rice annually mainly from Thailand and Vietnam.

The decision to deliver more Thai rice to China was taken after a visit by COFCO officials to Thailand where to bring their confidence in the Thai Rice, they witness the series of steps in rice production process from milling to packaging. Also Thai Ministry of Foreign trade has decided to demonstrate the DNA inspection process to visitors from China.

Moreover, Thailand will also work on the problem being faced by the Chinese importer regarding the imported Thai Rice quality. It was founded that some low quality grain was mixed with the Thai rice before it is exported to China. Proper ensurance of presence of Thai rice certification logo on exported Thai rice will be made by Thai government. If any Rice trader found guilty, he will be punished for breaching Thai intellectual property right.
