Dinesh Gundu Rao, Food and Civil supplies Minister has commented that the department is looking for the possibility of associating rice bags lifted from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godwon with a radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag as currently there is a challenge with keeping tabs on rice which were diverted from Anna Bhagya Scheme to black market.

Even though there is proper paperwork of each truckload, still the department is not sure whether each bag on the truck has been dispatched or not for the scheme and hence this tagging will help keep track.

The Minister also stated that the government is about to introduce an amendment to the Karnataka Essential Commodities Act of 1995 along with EPIC numbers to ensure that fake ration cards are wiped out and the government will consider penalizing those who produce these fake ration cards.

But the challenge with EPIC numbers will be that in case of change of EPIC numbers, there will be two ratio cards in the same name and hence this will require physical verification of the ratio card holders as they apply for the fresh cards.

He also targeted the opposition saying that previous BJP government did not take any remarkable steps to wipe out the fake ration cards and claimed that since his government has come into power they have already removed five lakh fake cards and issued nine lakh fresh cards to BPL
