Inspite of several ringing alarms, the rice millers had failed to deliver 29000 MT of rice to the state government for 2012-13 kharif marketing season.

This come into notice after a meeting of paddy procurement and recovery position of rice from millers for kharif marketing seasons 2012-13 and 2013-14 which is chaired by  Food supplies secretary Madhusudan Padhi.

The government has decided to take strict action against 20 millers identified as major defaulters during 2012-13, in eight districts for poor delivery of huge amount of the rice by miller. Besides notice, state government may also file a FIR against them.

Rice millers for the 8 districts namely Balasore , Ganjam , Sambalpur, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Bhadrak and Kalahandi have to deliver the rice to thestate government. Quantity wise 8,000 MT of rice are supposed to be collected from Balasore followed by 6,800 MT from Ganjam and 3,260 MT from Sambalpur

The State Government has purchased 42 lakh MT of paddy during 2013-14 kharif season. The government has started receiving rice from miller told an official who refused to tell his name to media.9 lakh MT has been received by the FCI

General practice of state government is to purchase paddy from different agencies and then give it to the miller and FCI according to its target receive the rice from miller.
